Vivent Les Frasers Outlander Itinerary

  • 8.45am Meet at 266 George Street in Glasgow where we aim to leave at 9 am sharp. We will then make our way to Dalmeny Train Station to pick up our Edinburgh guests for 10 am.
  • We will then make the short journey to Linlithgow Palace which is a fantastic palace ruin, used by the Kings and Queens of Scotland. It was Wentworth Prison in Outlander. We will stay here for 1 hour.
  • Afterwards, we make our way to nearby Hopetoun House, the location for many of the French scenes and the Duke of Sandringham's residence. We stay here for 1 hour and a half. There is also a fantastic tearoom here where you can enjoy some lunch at your leisure (not included).
  • We will then make the trip to Callendar House in Falkirk. We visit here for the kitchen area, made famous in Outlander where Murtagh chops off Sandringham's head. The kitchen itself is also fascinating, and there are guides on hand to explain how the kitchen once was in the 18th and 19th centuries. We will only visit for 30 minutes.
  • Finally, we will make our way to the Drummond Castle Estate where you can enjoy the gardens. For anyone with green fingers a visit here is a real delight, and for Outlander fans, it was the impressive Gardens of Versailles in the show. We will stay here for an hour.

Why Choose This Tour:

Apart from the fact that we have some fantastic guests on each touring day of this trip, our company is run by fans of the show and books. Catriona Stevenson, who will be your guide for the duration in July, has been leading Outlander tours for nearly 2 years and was a supporting actor in season 2 (and 4).

She was also lucky enough to be a part of a behind the scenes studio tour and although there will be no spoilers, she has held the Duke of Sandringham’s head in her hands and not to mention Sam’s and Tobias’s swords.

For the August (Birmingham Starfury Transfer), your guide will be James McKinlay. James is also a fantastic guide (check his reviews on TripAdvisor) and has filmed in S3 (and 4). He is a great resource for history, locations and behind the scenes knowledge too.

Join us on this magical tour to the land of the faeries passing through some of the most majestic scenery in the whole of Scotland.

We offer a small group guaranteed tour (no larger than 16 persons). This trip allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of city life as we embark on a spectacular journey through the Scottish wilderness learning about the area's unique culture and history along the way.

It is also a fantastic tour for those interested in the Outlander series and the Jacobite era of Scottish history as we visit significant landmarks associated with this time such as Culloden Battlefield and Glenfinnan. You can add a 1-day Outlander Filming Locations tour with us if you are fans of the show.

  • Glencoe
  • Loch Ness
  • Eilean Donan Castle
  • the beautiful Isle of Skye
  • Culloden Battlefield
  • And more

Day 1

Pick up from outside the Parish Halls Building on 266 George Street in Glasgow at 7 am. We will then make our way to the Fort William Train Station for those taking the Jacobite Steam Train (only available on the summer timetable). On the journey to Fort William, we will pass some beautiful sites such as Loch Lomond, Loch Tulla and Glencoe. There will be rest stop opportunities on the route and fantastic to get some great photographs too.

Once at Fort William, we will drop our guests taking the train ride off at the station and depart with our guests who are not taking the train ride along the same journey to Mallaig. All of our guests will accompany us during the winter months unless the Jacobite is operating on the date of travel in the winter (they have some festive timetables).  On this journey both the train guests and those who wish to stay with us will see the Glenfinnan Viaduct and Monument in the distance as well as the impressive Loch Nam Uamh. Once in Mallaig, we will meet up with everyone once again and have some free time to enjoy a spot of lunch and have a stroll around this picturesque seaside town (lunch not included) before taking the ferry to Skye.

Once on Skye, we will make our way to your accommodation. We prefer to stay in the Broadford area but Skye books up very quickly, so an early booking is advisable. (accommodation not included but we can assist in booking this for you, please inquire and remember to give us your room requirements, i.e. twin room / double and ensuite preferences.) Once we have dropped you off at your accommodation, this day will end, and it is a perfect chance to relax and prepare yourself for the rest of the trip.

Day 2

We will depart the accommodation early. The pickup times will be announced the day before as we may have to do several pickups due to the group most likely being scattered at various establishments. We will then make our way to Dunvegan Castle (entrance fee not included and only available during the Summer timetable) and enjoy a visit to this impressive castle and gardens, the ancestral home to the Chiefs of the Clan MacLeod.

We will then make our way for the Talisker Whisky Distillery where you will have time for a tasting and a walk around their exhibition centre and shop (not included in the tour). We will then have some lunch at the famous Oyster Shack nearby, or you are free to pick up a sandwich or similar if seafood does not appeal to you (lunch not included). After lunch, we will continue to Neist Point, one of the most scenic viewpoints on the island and on a sunny day you can enjoy views over to the isles. On the return journey, we will stop at the Fairy Pools which does require an element of walking (around 20 minutes down and then again on the way back). If mobility is an issue, you are welcome to stay with the vehicle and have a walk to the first waterfall with beautiful views of Glenbrittle and the Black Cuillins.

We will then return back to your accommodation where the day will end.

Day 3

Check out of your accommodation at a time to be defined and enjoy a morning tour of Skye. On this trip, you will see delights such as the Old Man of Storr, Lealt Falls, Kilt Rock, and the Quiraing. If there is time, we will also make a trip to the Fairy Glen and Uig where you will have the opportunity to visit the brewery.

We will then make our way into Portree where you can have some free time to explore this harbour town and enjoy some lunch (not included).

After Portree, we will continue our journey towards Inverness going over the Skye Bridge. On this journey, we will make photo and rest stops at Eilean Donan Castle, Glen Shiel and Loch Ness at Fort Augustus.

You will then check into your Inverness accommodation at which point this day of touring will end.

Day 4

Check out of accommodation and pick up at a time to be defined beforehand. We will then make our way for the Clansman Pontoon where you will catch a Loch Ness Cruise to Urquhart Castle. The boat trip is a 30-minute loch cruise which includes full commentary on board. You will arrive at the pier at Urquhart Castle where you can enjoy an hour visit at this ruin of a once formidable fortress in the Highlands. (Loch cruise and entrance to castle not included however you purchase both together at the cruise ticket booth).

After our visit to the Loch, we will make the journey to the Culloden Battlefield, where you can enjoy a light lunch (not included) and a tour of the battlefield provided by ourselves. Afterwards, we will visit the nearby Clava Cairns - a group of 3 - 4000-year-old burial cairns and standing stones.

We will then continue our journey back to Glasgow, making a stop at the Highland Perthshire town of Pitlochry for a comfort break and refreshments.

We will arrive back at 266 George Street in Glasgow at around 8 pm where the tour will end.

We will say our goodbyes, toast your honour and haste ye back again!

Important Notes on the Tour, please read:
This tour involves yachts and open water. By its very nature this tour has higher risk factor and is more demanding than most land based tours. Anyone joining us on this tour accepts the higher risks, the needs to be fairly mobile and fit and understand that you will be sleeping most nights in a yacht. The accommodation in the yacht is similar to that of a medium-sized caravan.
Guests are asked to bear in mind that as storage space is limited on a sailing yacht, they should limit the amount of luggage they each bring aboard, to one soft kitbag type holdall per person. Slainte Scotland will if need be retain other items of luggage for you while you are on board the yacht, and return those to you at the end of the sailing tour.

For your safety and enjoyment we also need to add the following conditions:
- On the yacht the skipper has the final say
- The tour may have to change at any time due to weather and sea circumstances
- Behaviour at sea and on boarding the yacht will be evaluated by the skipper continuously. The skipper has the discretion to not allow unacceptable or dangerous behaviour and may stop the tour if he fears for the safety of the guests, crew or any bystanders.

1. A non-refundable deposit of 20% is payable to Slainte Scotland (Clyde Coast Tourism Ltd) on booking the tour. The booking is not confirmed until the booking deposit has been paid.

2. The balance of the tour fee must be paid to Slainte Scotland (Clyde Coast Tourism Ltd) 28 days before the tour is due to commence. If the tour is booked within one calendar month of the start of the tour period, the full amount of the tour fee is due with the booking. To cancel, written notice must be received at least 60 days before the tour otherwise the full balance of the fee remains payable.

3. No age limit is rigidly imposed, however guests should satisfy themselves that they and those they intend to sail on the yacht during their tour (the "charter party") are all reasonably fit and likely to be able to cope with the physical and mental demands of being on a sailing yacht at sea (tight and steep stairs, smaller bunks, low doorways, floors slippery when wet).

4. The yachts are provided with full safety gear as specified by the MCA, including liferafts, flares, harness lines and adult-sized lifejackets. Should however the charter party include children for whom adult-sized lifejackets would be too large, then it will be the guests' responsibility to ensure that those children are each provided with - and required to wear at all times when on the yacht - suitably sized lifejackets or buoyancy aids. Waterproof sailing clothing is not provided with the yacht but may be hired separately.

5. The guests are deemed to understand and accept that sailing can be dangerous and has certain inherent risks, including the risk of injury or death.

6. The yachts are fully insured against accidents and carry third party liability insurance, but responsibility is not accepted for any personal accidents, damage or losses that are due to the negligence of members of the charter party. Any unnecessary damage and/or losses attributed by the skipper to carelessness on the part of members of the charter party will be charged at replacement price; and if not paid by them then recovered from the guests, who are in any event strongly recommended to arrange appropriate insurance cover for cancellation, injury and personal liability. For some skippered charters a refundable security deposit may also be payable by the guests; deductions may be made from this deposit, to allow full or partial recovery of any such damage and/or losses.

7. Damage to a charter party member’s personal property during the charter will not be the responsibility of Slainte Scotland (Clyde Coast Tourism Ltd), or the yacht owner, or their servants or agents. Nor will Slainte Scotland (Clyde Coast Tourism Ltd), the yacht owner or their servants or agents be liable for any other loss, injury or damage which may arise as a result of the normally accepted risks of sailing in a small yacht.

8. The tour charter contract will be subject to the Law of Scotland.
