COME on our islay whisky tour and visit the island's distilleries with us.

The Hebridean island of Islay off the West Coast of Scotland is world famous for its salt flavoured peat malt whisky. With a population of 3000 people and 8 (nearly 10) distilleries, you can tell the people on the island take this industry very seriously and it is embedded in the island's culture. It, therefore, seems very fitting that we at Sláinte Scotland (Gaelic for cheers), give you the pleasure of joining us on our discovery of Islay's "Uisge Beatha" - Water of Life.

Highlights:

  • Bowmore Whisky Distillery
  • Bruichladdich Whisky Distillery
  • Kilchoman Whisky Distillery
  • Laphroaig Whisky Distillery
  • Lagavulin Whisky Distillery
  • Ardbeg Whisky Distillery
  • 4 nights accommodation.
  • Enjoy the unique island atmosphere.

What our past guests have said about this tour:

From start to beginning fantastic service. Very cooperative company, Helmut was great. A greatly planned tour, a very good variety of tours at all distilleries. All accommodations very good especially the one on Islay. The whole group will certainly be coming back again

Jan, Sweden

I just returned from Slainte's Whisky Tour that took us to the island of Islay, Scotland -- it was a tremendous trip. The tour guide, Helmut, was a font of knowledge about Scotland generally and Islay & whisky specifically, and a pleasure to travel with. The scenery is spectacular with whisky to match. We ate at great restaurants on Islay and stayed at a fabulous Bed and Breakfast. I highly recommend this tour.

Itinerary:

Day 1:

We will meet you at the airport/train station and take you to your hotel: Holiday Inn Express Greenock or the Tontine Hotel in Greenock (20-30 minutes from the airport). The Holiday Inn Express includes breakfast. On booking, please advise us on the requirements of your room i.e double room/twin room etc.

Day 2:

Since you will have spent most of Day 1 travelling especially with a late check in at the hotel, we will leave the hotel at 11.00am. This will allow the group to get enough rest, have breakfast and be prepared for the journey ahead. We will make our way to Kennacraig where we will catch the ferry to Islay. The journey en route is absolutely breathtaking and we will make a couple of comfort and photo stops at Loch Lomond and Argyll. The ferry to Islay takes nearly 2 hours and we will enjoy a late lunch on the ferry. (not included).

Once on Islay, we will make our way for the accommodation. Where we stay is subject on availability (Islay is a very small island which makes availability a little difficult however we only use establishments with a great reputation) and will be on either a bed and breakfast or self-catering basis. Please advise us of your requirements on booking.

For dinner, we will enjoy a set meal at the Lochside Hotel (from a set menu and does not include anything extra not seen on this menu or drinks). The Lochside has a fantastic whisky selection in their bar.

Day 3:

We will depart from the accommodation at 9.30am and make our way to the Bowmore Distillery where you will enjoy a distillery tour.

10.00am Bowmore Distillery Tour

Visiting Islay? No trip to this island famous for its whisky would be complete without a tour of Islay's first distillery. Our award-winning Visitor Centre is open all year round and the tours, like our whisky, are world-renowned. After all, no one knows more about our celebrated Single Malt than the people who make it.

We will then make our way to Bruichladdich for the Tour and Tastings. Enroute we will enjoy lunch in the area and the amazing scenery for photographs. (not included).

1pm. Bruichladdich for the Tour and Tastings:

Basic whisky tour and tastings.

Afterwards, we will make our way to the Kilchoman Distillery where you will enjoy their whisky tour.

3.00pm Kilchoman Whisky Distillery

Our distillery tour lasts about an hour and includes a tasting of two drams.

After the tour, we will make our way back to the accommodation where you can relax and freshen up. We will have dinner at the Harbour Inn at 6.30pm (from a set menu and does not include anything extra not seen on this menu or drinks).

Day 4:

We will get up nice and early to depart at 9 am and get ready for a full day of whisky tours before making our way back to the mainland. Due to group size restrictions, we may split the group up at the various distilleries.

10 am Laphroaig Distillers Wares:

Enjoy a tour of the distillery from the malting through to maturation stages. In our warehouse sample straight from a selection of casks before using a valinch to bottle your favourite to take home and enjoy.
(Includes a glass and a 250ml bottle of selected cask)

We will then make our way to Lagavulin for the Premium tasting.

1.30pm Lagavulin Sensory Tasting Experience:

To celebrate our bicentenary at Lagavulin we created an exclusive Lagavulin tasting kit available only at the distillery. Complete with 5 whisky samples and 7 aromas and flavours the kit allows us to delve into the character of the whisky as the guide talks you through the process of bringing Lagavulin to life. You'll be given a kit of your own to take home and experience whenever it suits you.

The final distillery visit on this tour is the Ardbeg Tour and Tasting.

3.30pm. Ardbeg Tour and Tasting:

An opportunity to take a tour, taste Ardbeg and learn some of the secrets of the Distillery along the way. Have fun with your knowledgeable guide and ask the questions you need to be answered.
